The first place most people go when they are looking for something is the internet. It wasn’t that long ago that the internet wasn’t even around or very few people knew about it. Today if you’re doing business of any kind you had better be on-line or you’re going to be left behind.

Though building a website is a great place to start it alone will not get you anywhere. You have to do site promotion of some kind just to get noticed. If you want your site to excel you’ll need to do some extensive site promotion.

So where do you start? The first place to start is on the site itself. You want to optimize your site for the keywords your target market will be typing in to find you. Going into great detail on this subject is beyond the scope of this article, but I can tell you that your keywords should be easily seen on your site; like in the title and in the content, that includes bold lettering and italicizing them. Just don’t go overboard because you’ll be seen as a spammer by the search engines.

Your next step is to get people to know your site is there by advertising it. This can be done offline through newspaper ads, press releases, word of mouth through business cards, or radio and tv ads. There are hundreds of ways to do it, not only does this help your site, but the search engines will see that your bringing people on-line and you’ll get rewarded for it.

Online you can also do a lot of advertising, some of it can be done free others will cost money. There is PPC or Pay Per Click this is exactly what the name implies. You only have to pay for traffic when they actually click on your ads. This system alone can get you hordes of traffic if you target the right keywords with your ads. It can also cost you a fortune if you go into it half cocked and not aware of the dangers involved.

You can also do article marketing which has my personal recommendation because of the power behind it. Writing short article of around 500 words give or take a couple hundred and posting them into article directories will give you a lot of exposure. Article directories like EzineArticles have a lot of visitors each day that will see your articles and if they are interested in what you offer you’ll get free traffic.

The search engines will also see your articles and the links going back to your site which in turn will drive your site to the top of the search engines giving you even more traffic.
